Community Forestry Opportunity  (United States)

I want to spread the word about this interesting development with the the DNR. In cooperation with the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, and community board, the DNR is pioneering a community forest outside of Cle Elum (The Teanaway Community Forest). Community level management of forests, or some increased degree of it, is very much in line with the permaculture mission. My own opinion is that this will be a crucial transitional step, to maintain the function of our forests, as federal funding shrivels. The Teanaway model keeps management decisions local, while looking out for wildlife.

The DNR is asking for applications for addtional community forest projects. I should love to see such a thing here in the NE corner of the state. Moreso than on National Forest Land, a community forest offers more potential for experimentation with diverse forest projects, agroforestry, and climate change resilience. See the links below, and offer any thoughts.
