Back to Eden Garden  (United States)

Last weekend we drove out to Sequim and toured Paul Gautschi's garden from the film "Back to Eden". He has an amazing garden that utilizes a deep mulch system with woodchips, compost, and chicken manure. When asked about companion planting, he pointed out several plants that shouldn't grow together, but do in his garden. He suggested just planting things together and observing what works. He showed us several plants that shouldn't grow in his area, but do well in his garden. Sequim is on the "wet" side of the state, but in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains. Sequim and Spokane actually get similar annual rainfall. Their temperatures are not quite as extreme, but it is similar enough that I'm going to try some of his ideas. The film can be watched online at www.backtoedenfilm.com If you ever get the chance, I recommend watching it and taking his tour.
